City man arrested on drug-related charges following raid on Jamestown's northside Thursday...
A man from Jamestown has been arrested on multiple-drug related charges following a raid on a northside home Thursday morning. Sheriff's officers say their narcotics investigators... and, those from Jamestown police... executed a search warrant at 1107 North Main St. shortly after 6 a.m. with the help of the JPD SWAT Team. Inside... they located 44 year-old Joel Rosario-Negron... and seized 24.7 grams of crack cocaine... scales and packaging material used for drug trafficking... and, $1,400 in cash. Police say Rosario-Negron was charged with two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance... and, one cout of second-degree criminally using drug paraphernalia. Officers say Rosario-Negron was taken to the city jail pending arraignment. Two 18 year-olds arrested on drug and weapon's possession charges a short time later in Jamestown...
A short time later... city police and members of the JPD SWAT team raided a home on Jamestown's eastside... and, arrested two 18 year-olds there. Police executed a search warrant at 352 Falconer St. just after 6:30 a.m., and inside found Alexis Morales-DeJesus... and, Niderah Manuel... along with three juveniles. Once the residence was secured... officers say detectives searched and found two revolver style handguns, a 9mm semi-automatic handgun, a quantity of fentanyl, digital scales, packaging materials and a quantity of cash. Police charged both Morales-DeJesus and Manuel with two counts each of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon... three counts each of criminal possession of a firearm... third and fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.... and, two counts of second-degree criminally using drug paraphernalia. Morales-DeJesus was also charged with second-degree obstruction for trying to run back into the home while the SWAT Team was actively clearing the residence. Morales-DeJesus was arraigned in city court... and, taken to the county jail on $75,000 bail and Manuel was also jailed on $10,000 bail. The Sheriff's Department assisted in the drug bust.
Democrat challenger in 23rd Congressional race draws crowd of better than 120 in Jamestown...
The Democrat challenger in the race for the 23rd Congressional District is vowing to hold 100 town hall meetings across the district until Election Day. And... he hosted his first one in Jamestown last night. An overflow crowd of more than 120 was on hand to hear from Olean's Aaron Gies at the Prendergast Library. Gies was aware that incumbant Republican Nick Langworthy was speaking Thursday to the CHQ Chamber of Commerce...but, was only talking about the "positives..." like Chautauqua County losing 14,000 jobs in the past 20 years... the loss of major contract for local grape growers... and, the closing of five nursing homes in the district. One of the big reason's Gies says he's running for office is because rural communities in places like the Southern Tier are being left behind. He spoke for about 10 minutes before opening up the floor to questions. Gies says there are still good people in Congress... but, says money has corrupted the system.
Langworthy speaks earlier to CHQ Chamber Luncheon...
Local Congressman Nick Langworthy touted a wide-range of legislation he says will help local manufacturers regain their competitive edge. The Buffalo-area Republican spoke during the CHQ Chamber for the first time in two years during the organization's "State of NY-23" event in Jamestown. The second-term representative spoke about how the "Big Beautiful Bill" will help reverse the curse of manufacturing losses through the tax code... which he says will allow businesses can invest in new machinery and equipment and others going forward. Langworthy noted that manufacturing is one of the four pillars that make up Chautauqua County's economy. The other three are agriculture... tourism and small business... and, he believes there are opportunities to strengthen each one. However... Langworthy says some of the biggest impediments to growth in the 23rd District is state legislation regarding energy, taxes, and regulations.
Babe Ruth World Series announces all days of the tournament will have free admission, as well as teams coming from each region...
The public will be able to enjoy all of the 20-plus games of the 13-year-old Babe Ruth World Series games in Jamestown for free this year. That from this year's Host President and Public Relations Division head Kim Ecklund... who says the two remaining days that were open have now been sponsored. In a press release... Ecklund says "thanks to the on-going support of the community and our sponsors we are pleased to announce that all games are again free general admittance to the public." Ecklund says this year's teams include: the host Jamestown team... along with international representative Puerto Rico. The others include: Southeast Regional Champion Tallahassee-Leon from Florida... Southwest Regional winner Mid-County from Nederland, TX... Ohio Valley winner Janesville Youth from Wisconsin. Bethel, Conn. will represent the New England Region... along with Greater Westfield, Mass. Others are Atlantic Shore from Egg Harbor Township, NJ from the Mid-Atlantic Region... Miliani, Hawaii from the Pacific Southwest... and, Woodland, WA. representing the Pacific Northwest. Ecklulnd adds that the Host Committee is also looking for volunteer help during the week from Aug. 12-22... and, National Anthem singers. Games begin on Saturday, Aug. 15.
Pierre Chagnon announced as recipient of this year's John D. Hamilton Community Service Award...
The chairman of the Chautauqua County Legislature has been selected as this year's recipient of the 2026 John D. Hamilton Community Service Award. The Chautauqua Region Community Foundation... which presents the award each year... says Bemus Point's Pierre Chagnon will receive this year's award on Fri., Sept. 18th. The award... which is in it's 32nd year... recognizes a person whose -- "dedication, leadership, and service have strengthened community spirit and enhanced the quality of life throughout the Chautauqua region. The award honors the legacy of John D. Hamilton, whose lifelong commitment to civic leadership continues to inspire generations of volunteers."
