The Community Spotlight Local Public Affairs Program airs on all six of the Media One Radio Group radio stations. The Chautauqua County Executive appears the first week of each month and City of Jamestown Mayor appears the second week of each month. The other weeks of the month feature a variety of community leaders and special guests. The program airs on the following stations at the following times: WJTN - Saturday at 8:45 A.M. | WWSE - Sunday at 7:00 A.M. | WHUG & WKSN - Sunday at 6:30 A.M. | WQFX - Sunday at 5:30 A.M. | WKZA - Sunday at 6:00 A.M..

Chautauqua County Clerk Larry Barmore

Our Terry Frank speaks this weekend with incumbant Chautauqua County Clerk Larry Barmore about his run for a third-term this November. The Republican from Gerry says he continues to "enjoy my job" and that's why he's running again. He touted his experience in getting things done, such as being one of the first clerks in NYS to implement electronic recording of property records, and electronic filing of court records in the clerk's office. He also addressed criticism by his Democratic opponent of the way he reopening the county's three Dept. of Motor Vehicle Offices. David Salley says Barmore touted being the first in Western New York to reopen the DMVs before anyone else. Barmore says they reopened when they got the green light from NYS. Barmore adds that he's been able to save taxpayer dollars by moves that he's made, including moving the Jamestown DMV to a new location on West Third Street.

Executive Dir. Amy Rohler from United Way of Southern Chautauqua County

This week, our Terry Frank talks with United Way of Southern Chautauqua County Executive Director Amy Rohler about the start of the 2021 General Campaign, which has a goal of 1.3-million dollars. Rohler says they're of to a great start with Co-Chairs, Christine and Mark Tarbrake. She says both have been very involved with previous campaigns, with Christine -- in particular -- serving on the Allocations Committee. The goal is about 100,000 dollars more than last year, which was conducted differently due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The campaign runs through the end of the year. We also discuss the soon-to-be released final report on the city's ESPRI Program, which is geared towards reducing poverty in the Jamestown-area. The United Way was chosen to head up the effort to help people find life-sustaining jobs, and the training to get them.

Jamestown Mayor Eddie Sundquist

Our Terry Frank talks with Jamestown Mayor Eddie Sundquist about a number of matters and issues, but first gets reaction to the news of the death of long-time catholic priest Father Dennis Mende of Holy Apostles Parish, and St. James Church. He says it was a complete shock to hear. We also discuss the pending release of the final plan to use 28-million dollars in American Rescue Plan Act funds in the city. A presentation is to be made at Monday's City Council work session. We also discuss the recent meetings of the city's Deer Management Committee about deer population issues, and the Public Safety Committee's meeting with leaders of the Los Contrincantes Car Club about their event on Saturday, Sept. 18th at Bergman Park. Nine additional stipulations were put in place for the event regarding attendance, noise and security. We also discuss budget matters with the 2022 spending plan to be presented by October 8th.

Our Terry Frank welcomes back Chautauqua County Executive P.J. Wendel to the program -- this time in his official capacity -- to discuss a number of new issues. Wendel talks about being on hand for new Gov. Kathy Hochul's first official press event in Buffalo last week with members of the Western New York COVID-19 Control Room that she headed up. Wendel says she told them she's not going to micromanage how local and county governments manage the surge in COVID cases, due mainly to the Delta Variant. Wendel says this is what local leaders have wanted. We also discuss the ground-breaking for the first phase of a project to extend South and Central Chautauqua Lake Sewer District services further north and east along the lake. Thirdly, we also discuss the condition of Chautauqua Lake this late Summer, and the need to be safe on the water this Labor Day Weekend.
